The Sault Surge Aquatic Team attended the recent 2018 Canadian Swimming Championships in Montreal at the Olympic Stadium pool.

Paige Banton, Aliah Robertson, and Olivia Starzomski, all 15-years-old, represented the Surge. Both Banton and Robertson competed at their first senior national championships while teammate Starzomski attended just her second senior national meet. All three held their own racing to personal best times.

Banton advanced from preliminaries to a B final in the women's 50m breaststroke event with 19th place finish. Swimming in her very first senior national final did not phase her as she finished with an overall 16th place finish in a time of 34.21.

Starzomski advanced to the B final in the women's 200m Breaststroke with a 15th place in the preliminaries. The top 10 advance to the A final while the B final consists of the 11th through 20th place finishers.

It was her first final swim at a senior national meet and proceeded to hold her own finishing better with a 14th overall place.

Starzomski also attended the 2018 Eastern Canadian Championships in Windsor Ontario just a week after the Montreal meet with Logan Belanger, 14. Starzomski won gold in the youth Women's aged 13-15 final in the 200m Breaststroke and a silver medal in the 100m Breaststroke.

Belanger competed in her first finals at a national level meet by advancing to the Women's Youth B final in the 50m, 100m and 200m Breaststroke events.

The Surge finished the meet in 24th place overall among the women's teams with well over 75 clubs in attendance from the eastern Canadian provinces.

All four swimmers continue to progress, with all of them currently ranked in the top 10 in Canada for their respective ages in their respective best events.

The Sault Surge will be competing this weekend at the Olympic Gold pool in Sudbury at the Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club Spring invitational meet.
