A January announcement came to fruition on Sunday as Sault College shifted to outdoor soccer for the 2019 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) season.

The women’s and men’s teams took to the field for the first time on Sunday, hosting a doubleheader at Superior Heights against Centennial College.

It’s a new look for the school as Sault College had previously competed in indoor soccer at the OCAA level.

The women’s team opened the season with a 3-2 win on Sunday while the men dropped a 1-0 decision.

The two teams are set to return to action on Sept. 14 with road games against Algonquin College.

Both teams are in the OCAA’s East Division in outdoor soccer, a division that includes Centennial (Scarborough), Algonquin (Ottawa), Cambrian (Sudbury), Durham (Oshawa), Fleming (Peterborough), George Brown (Toronto), Loyalist (Belleville), St. Lawrence (Kingston), and Seneca (North York).

Loyalist has a women’s team only.
