Feb. 8, 2019 – Sault College take on Central Michigan University

The Sault College Cougars Men’s Hockey team traveled down to Mount Pleasant to take on the Central Michigan University Chippewas in ACHA DIII action. The Cougars who wanted to continue their outstanding season with another win.

After the end of the first period the Cougars had a one goal lead, the in the second there was a flurry of goals the Cougars scored three while the Chippewas scored one, the third period was a repeat of the second. The Cougars came away with a victory of 7 – 2.

Feb. 9, 2019 – Saul College rematch against Central Michigan University

The Sault College Cougars Men’s Hockey team, who were fresh off a win, was set for a rematch against the Chippewas. The First period was a well contested affair which ended with a Cougars 2 -1 lead, in the second period the Cougars were able to extend their lead to 4 - 2, from there the Cougars didn’t look back as they were able to add two more goals, ending the game 6 – 2.

The Cougars next action is Feb. 15 and 16 when they travel to Davenport University for a two game series.

Women’s Basketball

Feb. 9, 2019 – Sault Cougars vs Conestoga Condors

This past weekend the Sault Cougars traveled to Kitchener Ontario to take on the Conestoga Condors. The Cougars took to the court at 6 p.m.; the first quarter was a close affair which saw the Condors have a small lead of 12 – seven, the Condors extended their lead to six points at the end of the half.

After halftime the Condors came out strong scoring 21 points in the third quarter, however Mercedes Ryan lead the team in a comeback cutting the lead to five points, despite this the Condors end the game strong going on a run of their own eventually win the game 57 – 42. Ryan had an unbelievable game were she scored 23 points, had nine rebounds, two assists, and six steals.

The next day the Cougars were set for a rematch against the Condors, the first quarter end with a close score of 8 – 9 for the Condors, with a low scoring first quarter the Condors stepped up their game and scored 21 points in the second which lead to a 10 point lead at halftime.

The Cougars responded in the third quarter scoring 16 points, this momentum was carried over into the fourth were the Cougars outplayed the Condors and looked to achieve their first win of the season.

Eventually the Cougars ran out of gas and the Condors made their shoots in the last few minutes. Cassidy Sabourin provided the Cougars with 19 points, 14 rebound, and two steals. Sabourin was helped out by Mercedes Ryan who netted 14 points, six assists, six rebounds, and eight steals.

The Cougars are back in action this weekend as they host the St. Clair Saints for their final games of the season. Come out and support your Cougars as we celebrate our graduating athletes. Tipoff is at 6:00pm Saturday February 16th 2019.

Men’s Basketball

Feb. 9, 2019 – Sault Cougars vs Conestoga Condors

This past weekend the Sault Cougars traveled to Kitchener Ontario to take on the Conestoga Condors. The Cougars took to the court at 8 p.m.; the Cougars started the game off slow which help the Condors gain a 10 point lead by the end of the first quarter, the Cougars woke up in the second quarter competing against the Condors ending the half with a 11 point deficit.

The Cougars continued to play strong in the third quarter tying the Condors with 22 points each, still down the Cougars made a push to close the gap between them and the Condors. In the end the Cougars couldn’t convert on their opportunities, while the Condors did, the Cougars ended up losing 79 – 108. Jimmy Thai had an outstanding game scoring 33 points, and had four steals.

The Cougars were set for a rematch with Conestoga on Sunday, the Cougars who brought energy for the first five minutes of the game got out to an early lead, their excitement ending up getting them in trouble turning over the ball a couple times in a row which allowed the Condors to build confidence, and saw them go on a larger run ending the quarter 28 -12, the second quarter both teams played sloppy scoring 10 points and 13 points respectively.

After halftime the Cougars ran into a hurdle which saw them score only eight points, eventually the Cougars woke up again and played a close fourth quarter but by that time the game was already out of reach. The Cougars lost to the Condors 48 – 83, Andrew O’Brien scored 14 points with seven rebounds.

The Cougars are back in action this weekend as they host the St. Clair Saints for their final games of the season. Come out and support your Cougars as we celebrate our graduating athletes. Tipoff is at 8:00pm Saturday Feb. 16, 2019. They will then travel to Sudbury Ontario to play a rescheduled game against the Mohawk Mountaineers on Monday Feb 18, 2019 at Cambrian College.
