Sault athletes do well at first day of Special Olympics

Barbeau, Lewis compete at Hiawatha; curlers in action at Community First Curling Centre

Results from the first day of competition at the 2019 Special Olympics Ontario Provincial Winter Games are coming in, with Sault athletes doing well.

In the female division, Rachelle Barbeau took first place in a 5 km classical cross country skiing event at Hiawatha, finishing in 38 minutes and 34 seconds.

In the male division, Rob Lewis took first place in the 5 km, finishing in 31 minutes and 37 seconds.

As reported earlier by SooToday, Lewis won the gold in the 10 km classical cross country skiing event Thursday, finishing in one hour, seven minutes and thirty-eight seconds.

In Alpine Advanced Giant Slalom, the Sault’s Carter Simpson took first place in 55.88 seconds

In curling, the Sault rink lost to Orillia 7-5, later defeating Central Bruce 8-4.
