Sabercats recognized with OVFL awards

The Sault Sabercats did not go unnoticed as the Ontario Varsity Football League announced its all-stars and MVP selections this past week.

Top honours for the team were received by receiver Noah Rushon (pictured) and fullback Anthony Orazietti, who were named as the most valuable players at their positions in the Adam's Division.

Rushon finished second in the OVFL in receiving this past season with 48 catches for 827 yards and seven touchdowns in eight regular season games.

Orazietti, who is a respected blocking back, was second on the Sabercats in rushing with 244 yards on 39 carries for a 6.3 yard average per rush.

All-Star selections from the Sabercats in the Adam's Division include defensive back Jon Day, quarterback John Mullin, Orazietti, centre Mike Pratt, Rushon and defensive end Tysen Vanderloo.

The Sabercats recorded their best season ever in 2005 by going 7-1 in the regular season and capturing the division title before falling 43-15 to the Guelph Bears in the conference semi-final.

At the team level, the Sabercats award winners included Day as MVP, Rushon as offensive player of the year, Vanderloo as defensive player of the year, Kofi Osei with the Sabercat's Award, Tyler King as the most improved player and Orazietti, who captured the coaches award and players award.
