This afternoon’s Ontario Varsity Football League regular season finale for the Sault Sabercats has been cancelled.

The 1 p.m. kickoff between the Sabercats and Cambridge Lions has been cancelled after Cambridge could not get enough players to make the trip, meaning the Sabercats will pick up the win by way of forfeit.

Officially, the game goes down as a 20-0 Sabercats victory and allows the locals to finish the regular season with a 7-1 record, the best in team history.

With the win, the Sabercats clinch top spot in the Adam West Division and a first round bye in the playoffs. The London Falcons could also finish 7-1 with a win this weekend over Hamilton, but the Sabercats hold the tie-breaker.

The OVFL playoffs open next weekend with the Sabercats being back in action on Aug. 7.
