SARNIA -- The Sault Sabercats made their Ontario Varsity Football League debut here Saturday, losing 32-12 to the Lambton Lions before a rowdy crowd of more than 1,200. Tony Boniferro was the offensive star for the Sabercats.

SARNIA -- The Sault Sabercats made their Ontario Varsity Football League debut here Saturday, losing 32-12 to the Lambton Lions before a rowdy crowd of more than 1,200. Tony Boniferro was the offensive star for the Sabercats. The big tight end caught five passes for 72 yards and one touchdown. Kicker Anthony Posteraro had field goals of 23 and 32 yards to complete the Sabercat scoring. Quarterback Travis McLean completed seven of 17 passes for 95 yards and one TD for the Sabercats while Josh Gauthier rushed for 119 yards on 20 carries. Gauthier had 267 all-purpose yards. Defensively, Joel Aro and Gary Knox had 5.5 tackles apiece to lead the first-year Sabercats.
