Rain washes away racing action at Kinross Speedway

For the fourth time this 2003 season, the scheduled racing events at the Kinross Speedway were washed away by mother nature this past Saturday Night.

For the fourth time this 2003 season, the scheduled racing events at the Kinross Speedway were washed away by mother nature this past Saturday Night.

Heavy rain showers and thunderstorms majority of the day forced track officials to cancel the night's full card of stock car racing.Kinross' decision came only a matter of minutes before the same decision was made at the Merritt Speedway to our south. It was just one of those days for racing facilities across the state.

On a "sunny" note, the Speedway will look to get their 7th show in the books when racing continues this coming Saturday, August 2nd. The night will feature a full 4-in-1 show of Super Late Models, Factory Stocks, Pure Stocks and 4-Cylinders along with an Intermission Pit Crew Competition. Time trials begin at 4:30 p.m. with racing to follow at 6:00 p.m.

There will be a number of events going on this weekend as it has been deemed Coca-Cola Night at the Races. Coca-Cola Bottling of Michigan will provide some prizes and products to some lucky fans. Nyberg Lettering and Embroidery will team up as the 2nd sponsor of the night.

In a special announcement, the management and staff of the Kinross Speedway would like to inform everyone that this weekend's 50/50 draw will be going to support the Lavigne Family from Pickford. Travis (Alexander) Lavigne (13) was involved in an ATV accident over 1 week ago and the Speedway is proud to be supporting a member of our racing family with this special event.

Heading into the nights racing action Tim Aho (27) continues to lead the Super Late Model standings. He currently holds a 23-point advantage over 2nd place runner Dave Vansloten (33).

The Factory Stock Division sees a tie at the top of the standings as the "Pink Panther" Cecil Piche (88) and Soo, Ontario's Jason Praysner (5) currently sit with 451 points each. Jerry Ball (8) sits 8 points back in third while Kevin Johnson is a mere 13 points from your leaders in fourth.

#55 Barry Glenn continues to lead the Pure Stock Division with 498 points. The Soo, Michigan driver has a 47-point cushion over Ray Golladay (22).

The fourth and final division sees rookie driver Jared Nightlinger (48) hold the top spot in the Four Cylinder division with 472 points. Defending track champion John Mayer (9) sees himself 99 points from the top spot after car problems one week ago cost him in the standings.

Don't forget that specifics are continuing to be worked out for the Kinross Speedway Fall Invitational coming up on Saturday, September 13th.

The Kinross Speedway is located at the Kinross Community Park (formerly known as the Chippewa County Fairgrounds) in Kinross, Michigan. Take exit 378 off I-75 and follow the signs.

We hope to see you all trackside "Where Action is the Attraction!!" - the Kinross Speedway.
