Percy Bedford Award winner honoured

The annual Tenaris Awards also honoured the city's top female high school athletes

With high school sports complete for the season, it’s been a week of honouring the top high school athletes across the city.

Korah’s Madalyn Clement was named the Percy Bedford Award winner as the graduating athlete of the year, one of two honours for the Colts athlete.

Emily James of White Pines has been named the Tenaris Award winner, which goes annually to the graduating athlete with the top marks in maths and sciences.

It was one of a pair of awards for James, who was among six Harvey Morrison Award recipients as well.

The Harvey Morrison Award goes to athletes who have made outstanding contributions to high school athletics.

Kyler Grisdale of Korah, Emmalie Allard of Superior Heights, Gracee Zagordo of St. Mary’s, Nicole Ayotte of Notre Dame-du-Sault, and Elyce Bowman, also of White Pines, were also recipients of the award.

The annual awards ceremony also honoured the top athletes in female high school sports in the city.

The winners included: Hannah Heimonen of Superior Heights (cross country), Sadie Grawbarger of Superior Heights (basketball), Taya Venneri of Korah (volleyball), Ashlyn Acorn of White Pines (curling), Madalyn Clement of Korah (badminton), Ava Evans of St. Mary’s (soccer), and Kassandra Sartor of St. Mary’s (track and field).
