With the night off, one wouldn’t question if the Soo Greyhounds were scoreboard watching as eight games were on the Ontario Hockey League schedule on Friday night.
For the Greyhounds, three games were of interest as the four other teams in the West Division were all in action including the Plymouth Whalers and Sarnia Sting. The Greyhounds are in a battle with the Whalers and Sting for top spot in the division.
The Whalers maintained their division lead thanks to a 3-2 shootout win in Kitchener over the Rangers. Stefan Noesen scored the shootout winner for the Whalers. Zach Lorentz and Vincent Trocheck scored in regulation for the Whalers. Matt Puempel scored both goals for the Rangers. Matia Marcantuoni set up a pair of goals in the loss.
The Sting jumped a point ahead of the Greyhounds in the standings thanks to a 2-1 win over the Windsor Spitfires. Reid Boucher notched his 50th goal for the Sting in the win while Daniel Nikandrov also scored. Overage goaltender JP Anderson stopped 31 shots. Remy Giftopoulos scored the lone goal for Windsor.
In Saginaw, Scott Laughton scored three times as the Oshawa Generals beat the Saginaw Spirit 6-4. Scott Sabourin added a goal and two assists in the win. Bradley Latour assisted on three goals. Boone Jenner and Colin Suellentrop also scored for Oshawa. Jimmy Lodge scored three goals and an assist for the Spirit. Eric Locke added a goal and two assists in the loss.
In Erie, Dane Fox scored a pair of goals and set up another as the Erie Otters beat the London Knights 4-3. Connor Brown set up three goals in the win. Luke Cairns and Connor McDavid also scored for the Otters. Max Domi and Alex Broadhurst set up two goals each for the Knights. Matt Rupert, Bo Horvat and Ryan Rupert completed the London scoring.
In Guelph, Daniel Catenacci scored a pair of goals to lead the Owen Sound Attack to a 4-2 win over the Guelph Storm. Holden Cook and Chris Bigras also scored. Ryan Horvat and Brock McGinn scored for Guelph.
In Mississauga, Charlie Graham stopped all 37 shots he faced as the Belleville Bulls blanked the Mississauga Steelheads 1-0. Daniil Zharkov had the lone goal in the contest.
In Ottawa, Stephen Pierog had a goal and two assists as the Peterborough Petes beat the Ottawa 67’s 5-1. Jonatan Tanus added a goal and an assist in the win. Nick Ritchie, Michael Clarke and Brett Findlay also scored in the win. Michael Guigovaz stopped 36 shots in the win. Sean Monahan scored for Ottawa.
In Sudbury, Mike Morrison stopped 33 shots as the Kingston Frontenacs beat the Sudbury Wolves 3-1. Ryan Kujawinski, Henri Ikonen and Sam Povorozniouk scored for Kingston in the win. Jacob Harris had the lone goal for Sudbury.
