OHL Roundup: Sault Ste. Marie and Plymouth pick up important wins

Three West Division teams saw action on Saturday night with the Soo Greyhounds and Plymouth Whalers picked up wins to remain separated by a single point at the top of the division. The Greyhounds scored a 5-4 shootout win in Saginaw over the Spirit.

Three West Division teams saw action on Saturday night with the Soo Greyhounds and Plymouth Whalers picked up wins to remain separated by a single point at the top of the division.

The Greyhounds scored a 5-4 shootout win in Saginaw over the Spirit. Jared McCann scored the shootout winner and assisted on a pair of goals for the Greyhounds in the win. David Broll, Sergey Tolchinsky, Ryan Sproul and Dylan Staples scored for the Greyhounds. Jimmy Lodge scored a goal and assisted on three others for Saginaw in the loss. Garret Ross had two goals and an assist for the Spirit.

In Plymouth, Matthew Mistele scored a pair of goals while Vincent Trocheck had three assists as the Plymouth Whalers beat the Peterborough Petes 4-1. Goaltender Matt Mahalak missed the game for the Whalers due to injury so Alex Nedeljkovic got the start for Plymouth, stopping 38 shots. Peterborough goaltender Michael Guigovaz stopped 54 shots in a losing effort.

In Belleville, Carter Sandlak had two goals and an assist as the Belleville Bulls beat the Sarnia Sting 8-3. Alan Quine and Garratt Hooey had a goal and two assists each for Belleville. Daniil Zharkov and Joseph Cramarossa had a goal and an assist each for the Bulls. Charles Sarault had a pair of goals for the Sting in the loss.

In Erie, Michael Kantor scored a pair of goals for the Sudbury Wolves as they picked up a 7-2 win over the Erie Otters. Mathew Campagna, Nathan Pancel and Brody Silk each had a goal and an assist for the Wolves. Sudbury goaltender Taylor Dupuis stopped 38 shots. Dane Fox and Connor McDavid scored for Erie in the loss.

In St. Catharines, Brett Ritchie scored a pair of goals as the Niagara IceDogs beat the Mississauga Steelheads 4-1. Ryan Strome chipped in with a goal and an assist. Jesse Graham and Steven Shipley had two assists each for Niagara. Riley Brace scored the lone goal for the Steelheads.

In Owen Sound, Sault Ste. Marie native Jake Patterson stopped all 34 shots he faced as the London Knights blanked the Owen Sound Attack 3-0. Josh Anderson scored a pair of goals and assisted on another for London. Chris Tierney assisted on two goals for London. Owen Sound goaltender Jordan Binnington stopped 25 shots in the loss.
