Scott Dickie made 32 saves as the Kitchener Rangers opened their OHL playoff series with the Greyhounds on Friday night, blanking the Soo 3-0.

More than 5,900 fans took in the game at Kitchener's Memorial Auditorium.

Gregory Campbell, David Clarkson and Marcus Smith scored for Kitchener, which outshot the Greyhounds 46-32.

Game two of the series is Saturday night in Kitchener.

In other games from Friday:

Sooite Craig Kennedy had two assists as the Windsor Spitfires evened their series with the London Knights at 1-1 with a 4-1 decision.

The Guelph Storm scored a road upset, cuffing the Sarnia Sting 5-2.

Sooite Brandon Nolan had two goals and an assist in a losing effort as the Oshawa Generals fell 6-5 to the Peterborough Petes in overtime.

The Ottawa 67s needed overtime to edge the Mississauga IceDogs 4-3 as Corey Locke scored the winner.

FIRST FOR RAY: Former Greyhound Ray Emery made his first NHL start a winning one on Friday, blocking 14 shots as the Ottawa Senators upended the Atlanta Thrashers 5-1.

HELP WANTED: Two OHL coaches paid the price for their teams missing the playoffs when they were fired on Thursday. In Sudbury, veteran coach/general manager Bert Templeton was given his walking papers by the Wolves. And the Kingston Frontenacs dismissed head coach Greg Bignell.

The 62-year old Templeton, who missed the playoffs for the first time in his 26-year OHL coaching career, is expected to land employment elsewhere in the league. He has 907 regular season wins in his career, second only to Ottawa's Brian Kilrea inC Canadian Hockey League history.

Templeton has coached, with success, the Hamilton Fincups, Niagara Falls Flyers, North Bay Centennials and Barrie Colts.

Templeton had one year left on a five-year deal with Sudbury and was let go by Wolves' owner Mark Burgess just a few days after being told that a change wouldn't be made.

Before taking the Sudbury job, Templeton almost wound up with the Greyhounds, who instead hired Paul Theriault.
