Facing second seeded Ernestown, the Braves were handed a 65-34 loss to open the OFSAA AA boys basketball championships in Perth.

Kyle Gauthier and D.J. Wright led the Braves with nine points each while Donnie Gibson led Ernestown with 19 points.

Bawating will be back in action on Thursday afternoon at 3:15 p.m. against Toronto's Vaughn Road. A loss would eliminate the Braves while a win would vault the team into the quarterfinals on Thursday night.

*** EAGLES INTO PLAYOFFS:

The Sir James Dunn Eagles senior girls volleyball team has advanced into the OFSAA AAA quarterfinal playoff round after finishing second in their pool with a 2-1 record on the opening day of competition.

In action on Wednesday, the Eagles defeated Holy Trinity 25-14, 25-14 and Martingrove 25-16, 25-12 before dropping a tough 25-15, 18-25, 12-15 decision to Libermann.

The Eagles will hit the court for their playoff match on Thursday at 10:30 a.m. against St. Michael.

Should the Eagles win, they would advance into a best three-of-five semi-final match on Thursday afternoon. The gold and bronze medal games will be held on Thursday night.
