NOSSA track and field wraps up in Sudbury

The Northern Ontario Secondary School Association (NOSSA) track and field meet wrapped up on Thursday in Sudbury.

It marked a busy two days with numerous area athletes in competition looking to earn berths in the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association (OFSAA) track and field championship in Belleville, Ont. beginning on June 1.

Jenna Flemming of Central Algoma Secondary School (CASS) picked up a first-place finish in the junior women’s javelin (35.71 metres) and captured second in the discus (28.32m).

Michael Shaw of CASS took top spot in the midget boys javelin (41.54m).

Andrew Budau of Korah picked up a pair of first-place finishes. Budau took top spot in the senior boys 3000m (9:40.78) and the open 2000m steeplechase (6:31.98).

Korah’s Jadyn Zeppa also had a pair of first-place finishes. Zeppa took top spot in the midget girls 100m dash with a time of 13.13 seconds and finished first in the midget girls 200m dash (27.58). Zeppa also finished third in the midget girls long jump (4.42m).

For St. Mary’s, Taryn Lamorie picked up three first-place finishes at the event. Lamorie finished in top spot in the senior girls 100m dash (12.96), senior girls 200m dash (26.48) and in the senior girls long jump (5.31m).

Zach Senecal, also of St. Mary’s captured top spot in a pair of events, including the senior boys 100m dash (11.86) and senior boys 200m dash (23.57). Senecal also had a second-place finish in the senior boys 400m dash (52.55).

Alyssa Rizzo of St. Mary’s captured top spot in the junior girls long jump (4.75m), second in the junior girls 400m dash (1:01.87) and third in the junior 100m dash (13.56).

Emma Bil of Superior Heights finished first in the midget girls 400m dash (1:01.36) while Brayden Corbett Lewis had a pair of first-place finishes, winning the midget girls shot put (11.19m) and the midget girls discus (26.52).

Tessa Leveille of Superior Heights finished first in the midget girls 300m hurdles (49.82).

Superior Heights’ Alea Nye finished first in the midget girls 80m hurdles (13.82) while Rebekah Trudel finished in top spot in the senior girls discus (29.61m).

Caleb Dawson of White Pines earned top spot in the junior boys javelin (43.16m) while Joseph Hocevar grabbed top spot in the junior boys discus (36.73m).

Other Korah athletes who finished high in their respective events included:

  • Darian Belkosky – third in senior boys shot put (11.83m)
  • Cassandra Carlson – third in junior girls discus (26.31m), third in junior girls javelin (27.99m)
  • Nik Gervasi – third in senior boys 400m dash (53.25)
  • Shea-Lynn Gioia – third in senior girls long jump (4.84m) and fourth in senior girls high jump (1.45m)
  • Jordan Grondin – second in junior boys shot put (12.29m)
  • Hanna Jodoin – second in junior girls 1500m (5:23.10)
  • Maya Lortie – third in junior girls 80m hurdles (13.60)
  • Gaston Matilla – fourth in midget boys 100m hurdles (18.38)
  • Luke May – third in junior boys triple jump (11.32m)
  • Sila McGuffin – third in senior girls high jump (1.50m)
  • Caleb Patteri – second in junior boys 100m dash (11.71), second in junior boys 200m dash (23.52), fourth in junior boys long jump (5.41m)
  • Jaydn Pettenuzzo – first in senior girls 800m (2:26.86); third in senior girls 400m dash (1:01.35)
  • Devin Segin – fourth in senior boys javelin (44.43m)
  • Gracie Sloss – midget girls high jump (1.37m)
  • Nick Smith – fourth in senior boys long jump (5.80m)
  • Colton Smithers – second in midget boys javelin (36.42m), fourth in midget boys long jump (5.20m)

Other St. Mary’s athletes who placed high in their respective events included:

  • Matthew Agawa – second in midget boys 100m hurdles (16.78)
  • Mia Cress – fourth in open girls 1500m steeplechase (6:03.30)
  • Jacey Duguay – third in junior girls triple jump (9.90m)
  • Ryan Guindon – third in midget boys 3000m run (10:33.25)
  • Joshua Marrello – second in midget boys 100m dash (12.62), third in midget boys 200m dash (25.66)
  • Olivia Orazietti – second in senior girls 100m dash (12.99), fourth in senior girls 200m dash (27.39)
  • Skylar Miceli-Premo – third in senior boys 100m dash (12.04)
  • Khala Ritchie – first in midget girls long jump (4.82m)
  • Hayden Rollin-Taylor – fourth in junior boys shot put (11.31m)
  • Lilliana Speck – third in senior girls 100m hurdles (17.12)
  • Talyn Tait – third in open girls 1500m steeplechase (5:54.36)
  • Dalton Toppan – second in the senior boys 100m dash (12.00)
  • Ty White – third in senior boys long jump (5.89m)

Other Superior Heights athletes with high finishes at the two-day event included:

  • Ben Baggs – second in senior boys 110m hurdles (16.71), fourth in senior boys triple jump (11.93m)
  • Tristan Brown – fourth in midget boys 100m dash (12.66)
  • Ally Buchan – second in senior girls triple jump (10.20m)
  • Samantha Dinter – second in senior girls javelin (29.94m)
  • Ethan Johnson – fourth in junior boys javelin (38.32m)
  • Mark Keenan – fourth in midget boys 1500m run (4:32.86)
  • Nick Keenan – second in senior boys 800m run (2:06.15), second in senior boys 1500m run (4:23.60)
  • Emma Klooster – fourth in senior girls 800m run (2:43.12), fourth in senior girls 1500m run (4:23.60)
  • David Kowalyk – third in midget boys 400m dash (57.57)
  • Gavyn McCabe – second in senior boys javelin (4.05m), third in senior boys discus (32.04m), fourth in senior boys 110m hurdles (17.06)
  • Liam Morassut – fourth in junior boys 100m hurdles (16.70)
  • Alexa Notte – second in midget girls triple jump (9.65m)
  • Alicia Wellings – fourth in senuor girls 400m hurdles (1:21.00)
  • Hanna WIgmore – fourth in junior girls 100m dash (13.56), fourth in junior girls long jump (4.72m)
  • Owen Young-Pine – third in senior boys high jump (1.71m)

Other White Pines athletes who placed in the top four of their respective events included:

  • Maddy Assiginack – third in senior girls discus (27.48m)
  • Alex Foster – fourth in senior boys 200m dash (24.03) and fourth in senior boys 400m dash (53.32)
  • Isaiah Graber – second in senior boys 400m hurdles (1:06.06), fourth in senior boys high jump (1.71m)
  • Mackenzie McBride – second in midget girls high jump (1.40m)

Korah’s 4x100m midget girls relay team of Zeppa, Sloss, Hailey Soccia and Chanel Dubreuil finished fourth with a time of 56.68 seconds.

In the 4x100 junior relay, Korah’s team of Jodoin, Lortie, Jilian Dawe and Victoria Talvitie placed fourth (56.32).

In the junior boys 4x100m relay, Korah’s team of Patteri, Luke May, Saurdeep Majumbar and James Lewis finished second with a time of 48.95 seconds.

Korah’s team of Budau, Gervasi, Sean Smith and Connor Tait capture top spot in the open 4x400m relay with a time of 3:41.97.

A pair of St. Mary’s relay teams picked up first-place finishes, including the senior girls 4x100m  team of Orazietti, Ritchie, Rizzo and Lamorie (52.14) and the senior 4x100m boys team of Toppan, Premo-Miceli, Senecal and Joshua Rouleau (45.66).

St. Mary’s open 4x400m relay team of Toppan, Premo-Miceli, Guindon and Senecal picked up a second-place finish (3:45.32).

The Superior Heights midget girls 4x100m relay team of Bil, Notte, Tessa Leveille and Madison Orlando finished first with a time of 53.81 seconds.
