North Stars sweep road trip as GNML season winds down

The Great North Midget League season is winding to a close and the Soo North Stars have completed the road portion of their schedule after a three-game weekend trip.

The North Stars opened the weekend on Friday night with a 6-1 win over the New Liskeard Cubs. Jaren Bellini led the way for the North Stars with three goals in the win. Ryan Vendramin (two goals, one assist) and Anthony Stefano (one goal, two assists) also had three-point nights for the North Stars. Matt Pinder, Devin Shell and Jack MacLeod had two assists each for the North Stars.

Jacob Leveille scored the lone goal for New Liskeard.

On Saturday night, Pinder (two goals, three assists) and Shell (one goal, four assists) had five-point nights as the North Stars beat Kirkland Lake 15-3. Jaron Rowe had three goals and an assist in the win. Matt Mitchell scored a pair of goals and two assists. Stefano scored once and assisted on three others. Cody Caron (two goals, one assist), Nathan Hebert (three assists) and Kaelan O’Flynn (three assists), Bellini (two goals), Vendramin (one goal, one assist) and Ryan Cooke (one goal) also chipped in offensively.

Marshall Nikitin, Jordan Wilson and Connor Lamothe each scored in the loss for Kirkland Lake.

The North Stars capped off the weekend with a 7-2 win over the Timmins Majors. Pinder (three goals), Vendramin (two goals, one assist), Caron (one goal, two assists), Stefano (three assists) and Shell (three assists) led the offensive attack. Bellini assisted on two goals. Rowe scored the other North Stars goal.

Andrew Boucher and Calvin Naveau scored for Timmins in the loss.

The North Stars wrap up their GNML regular season schedule on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. when they host the Nickel City Sons at the John Rhodes Community Centre.
