The Soo North Stars run at the regional playdowns came to an end on Sunday with a loss in the bronze medal game.

Facing the Gloucester Rangers in the medal matchup, the North Stars dropped a close 5-4 decision to conclude the National Midget Hockey Championship Regional Playdowns in Belleville.

Adam Kauppi scored a goal and added an assist to led the locals while single goals went to Paul DuPont, Matt D'Agostini and Tyler Gendron. Michael Maulucci made the start in goal.

On Saturday, Maulucci was named as the top goaltender of the tournament. In three round robin games, Maulucci allowed only three goals and compiled a outstanding .970 save percentage.

The loss marks an end to brilliant run by the local AAA midget squad this season. The North Stars cruised through the Great North Midget League season and playoffs while proving to be among the province's elite.

The team entertained local fans with an exciting brand of hockey, taking full advantage of the team's superior skating abilities and offensive talent.

In the regional final, the Toronto Marlies upset the Waterloo Wolves 3-1 to advance to the National Midget Hockey Championships April 19-25 in Kenora.
