The Soo North Stars will look to improve their perfect record on Wednesday afternoon at the Ontario Hockey Federation Midget AAA Regional Championships in Toronto.

Heading into Wednesday’s 2 p.m. contest against the Gloucester Rangers, the Great North Midget League and Northern Ontario Hockey Association champion North Stars hold a 2-0 record and a share of first place with the Don Mills Flyers.

The North Stars opened the tournament on Monday night with a 4-3 win over the host Toronto Jr. Canadiens before scoring a 4-3 win over the London Jr. Knights on Tuesday afternoon.

On Monday, Tyler Gendron erased an early 1-0 Toronto lead by scoring with 45 seconds remaining in the first period.

After allowing Toronto to build a 3-1 lead, the North Stars stormed back to capture the win.

Gendron's second goal pulled the Soo to within one heading to the third period, when Jake McClelland tied the game on the power play at 4:21 before Jake Reid scored the game winner at 12:26.

Paul Dupont added a pair of assists for the North Stars while McClelland set up one and Gendron added another for a three point night.

On Tuesday, Michael Quesnele paced the North Stars offense with two goals while Gendron scored once and added an assist and Zack McNally scored another.

McNally broke a 3-3 tie with 3:42 remaining as the North Stars scored all four of their goals on the power play.

Reid and Ben Davey recored two assists each.

On Thursday, the North Stars are scheduled for a pair of games beginning with a 9 a.m. contest against the Nepean Raiders before meeting the Markham Waxers at 7 p.m.

The North Stars close the round robin portion of the schedule on Friday at 12 p.m. against Don Mills.

The top four teams after the round robin will play in the semi-finals on Saturday with the winners meeting in Sunday's gold medal game and the losers playing for bronze.
