For the second year in a row, Ted Nolan has been denied a National Hockey League opportunity to coach in New York. Last year, Nolan lost out to Peter Laviolette for the head coaching job with the Islanders. This year, the Rangers picked Bryan Trottier as their new head coach over Nolan. The Rangers will introduce Trottier as their new bench boss today. A native of Garden River First Nation, Nolan has not coached since 1997 when he turned down a one-year contract to continue as head coach of the NHL's Buffalo Sabres. Nolan coached the Ontario Hockey League Soo Greyhounds to the 1993 Memorial Cup championship. A former Greyhound player, Nolan made it to the NHL, toiling as a left winger with the Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins.
