Sault Ste. Marie’s Mac Marcoux is looking to continue to rebound at the 2018 Paralympic Games in PyeongChang, South Korea.
Coming off a bronze medal performance in the giant slalom event, Marcoux and his guide Jack Leitch will look to build on that heading into the slalom event on the weekend.
Marcoux already has a pair of medals heading into Friday, including gold in the men’s downhill in addition to his bronze..
The first run for the men’s slalom visually impaired event is set for Saturday morning at 9:30 in PyeongChang. The time difference makes the event at 8:30 p.m. Friday Sault time.
The bronze medal came on the heels of disappointing runs in the super-G and the super-G portion of the super combined. Marcoux would say that the bronze medal performance was a step in the right direction for Friday’s event.
“I think now that we have that out of the way, we’re ready for slalom,” Marcoux said in an Alpine Canada release.
In the giant slalom event, Marcoux completed his first run in fourth, 4.32 seconds behind the eventual gold medalist, Giacomo Bertagnolli of Italy.
Marcoux would proceed to gain time in his second run of the event, finishing the two runs with a combined time of 2:17.51.
“Those two super-G runs I didn’t finish were starting to get in my mind a little bit,” Marcoux said, admitting he skied conservatively in the opening run of the event. “But in the second run today we were feeling a bit better and skied faster – still not 100 per cent – but it was enough to step up and make it on the podium.
