MACC at Searchmont this weekend

The Michigan Alpine Competition Council (MACC) is a non-profit organization made of amateur ski racers who work as volunteers to run the main Alpine ski racing program for adults in the Michigan region.  

And they will be invading the city of Sault Ste. Marie Ontario and the Searchmont Ski Resort starting today in preparation for a fun filled race weekend on the hill.

On Friday, February 5, over 50 adult ski racers and eligible junior racers will start running the Super G, Regular GS and Slalom courses and experiencing the rolling terrain of Searchmont’s over 700-ft vertical. 

The races will continue through to Sunday, February 7.   

The MACC race has not taken place at Searchmont in a few years so this is a brilliant event to host for both the city of Sault Ste. Marie and for Searchmont Ski Resort as it will bring in large numbers of racers and their friends and family into the community.  

MACC began decades ago as a league for ski clubs, with club membership mandatory for participation. In 2003 they became an independent non-profit organization dedicated to providing a high-quality racing program for adults.  

The race series covers 12 races with quality courses over a five weekend period each year at Boyne Mountain,  Searchmont or Marquette. 

It's open to virtually all adult recreational racers and also 14, 15, 16, and 17-year old racers with MACC parents.

You can race at your own level, compete in classes based on ability and gender.  

Ability groups are also divided by age (Open, 40+, and 60+). A handicap system and dedicated coaching puts you within a few seconds of the other racers in your class.
