St. Joseph Island product Jenna Fleming is making the most of her first season competing in track and field at Lake Superior State University.

Currently a freshman at the school, Fleming competed in her first javelin event at the collegiate level this weekend at the 2021 Blizzard Buster, hosted by Miami Ohio University and proceeded to set a new LSSU record in the process.

Thanks to a throw of 45.16 metres, Fleming topped the previous record, set by Jill Walton in May 2008 by nearly six metres.

Thanks to a second-place finish at the event and her record-setting throw, Fleming provisionally qualified for the NCAA National Meet, which is set for the end of May.

Fleming currently sits eighth in NCAA Division II competition.

Prior to joining Lake State, Fleming was a standout in track and field at CASS.
