From July 23 to July 29, 2017, bowlers from The Americas, including Canada will be competing in the Lee Evans Tournament of The Americas.

The Bowling Tournaments of The Americas Association has been hosting International competition for 54 years. Tournaments are presently held at Strikers Family SportsCenter in Sunrise, Florida.

The Tournament of The Americas is open by official invitation only for entries from the countries of North, South, Central Americas and the Carribean. This annual tournament, now in its 55th year, hosts Adult, Senior, Super Senior, Junior "A" (U20), and Junior "B" (U16) teams from the countries of The Americas. Each division is comprised of one team of two men and two women.

The tournament consists of six days of competition; two days of singles (12 games), one day of doubles (six games), one day of mixed doubles (six games ) and two days of teams (eight games).

The 16-year-old Bass will be bowling in the Junior “A” (U20) division with teammates Karley Foster, Sarah Klassen and Joshua Bautista, all from Southern Ontario.

Being no stranger to competition, Aidan is a seven-time Canadian champion and recently bowled in the Canadian Team Trials in Montreal, Que. in May, finishing 11th place in the Youth division. The top five bowlers represent Canada as the 2018 Team. Although not the results Bass was hoping for, “the three-day competition was such a great experience,” and makes him want to work harder at his game.

“To bowl with all of the top bowlers in the country, it shows you what a great and competitive sport bowling is.”

Aidan also competed in the YBC (Youth Bowling Congress) National Tournament in Guelph, Ont., representing Northern Ontario. He finished second place in a 214-210 tie-breaker game for gold against Liam Naylor of Manitoba.

Each year, the Carl Malcolmson Memorial Scholarship is awarded to both the senior girl and senior boy with the highest average. Aidan won this scholarship in the Senior Boys Division with an average of 196.2.

This will be the first time Bass will be representing his country at an international competition but he hopes it is just the first of many.

“To represent your country in the sport you love is a great honor and I would love to be able to do it many more times in the future”
