Knights return to dominant form

Scoring early and often, the defending city, NOSSA and Central Bowl champion Knights defeated the Wolverines 50-6 to improve to 2-0 in the high school football senior division standings. White Pines falls to 1-1.

Kayvon Fatemazadeh led St. Mary's with a pair of touchdowns on runs of six and 40 yards. Andrew Posteraro hauled in a 27 touchdown reception and successfully kicked six of seven convert attempts. Fullback Dan Esson added a pair of touchdowns for the Knights on runs of four and five yards.

Phil Ruicci caught an 18 yard touchdown pass and linebacker Aaron Amadio returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown to complete the St. Mary's scoring.

Matt Premo scored the lone White Pines touchdown on a two yard run. The Wolverines failed the two-point convert attempt.

With St. Mary's holding a 37-0 lead by halftime, the second half was played with straight time.

Statistically for the Knights, Fatemazadeh led all rushers with 103 yards on 13 carries while Kyle Dugas gained 43 yards on four carries. Quarterback Anthony Amadio completed six of nine passes for 127 yards and two touchdowns. Posteraro caught two passes for 56 yards and two passes for 40 yards. Joey Thorburn recorded four tackles on defense and Matt Chlebus three.

For White Pines, Premo was the top rusher with 22 yards on five carries and receiver with 26 yards. Quarterback Justin Wensley completed five of 11 passes for 66 yards and two interceptions. Noah Rushon led the defense with seven tackles while Wensley added six.

In the junior contest, St. Mary's blanked White Pines 22-0.

Senior division action continues on Friday with St. Basil (0-1) meeting Bawating (0-1) at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, Korah (0-1) battles Sir James Dunn (1-0) at 1 p.m. Both games are scheduled at Rocky DiPietro Field.
