Knights fall in OFSAA quarters

It was a disappointing end to a strong season for the city champions

The St. Mary’s Knights bid for an Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) hockey championship came to an end on Thursday evening.

The Northern Ontario Secondary School Association (NOSSA) champions dropped a 4-1 decision to Denis Morris of St. Catharines in quarter-final action Thursday.

The Knights earned a spot in the quarter-final thanks to a 2-0-1 record in the round robin while Denis Morris posted a 2-1 record in round robin action.

The team opened action Wednesday with a 2-2 tie against Malvern of the Toronto District Secondary School Athletic Association. Austin Rowe had both goals for St. Mary’s.

In evening action on Wednesday, the Knights beat Neil McNeil of the Toronto District Catholic Athletic Association 7-5.

On Thursday morning, the Knights booked a ticket to the playoff round with a 5-1 win over Grand River of the Central Western Ontario Secondary Schools Association. Grand River entered the tournament ranked second behind St. Peter of the Central Ontario Secondary School Association.
