Thanks to three consecutive victories, the St. Mary’s Knights have won the city high school hockey title.

The Knights beat the Korah Colts 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon at the John Rhodes Community Centre to win the best-of-5 final in four games.

A pair of goals in the opening period were the eventual difference for St. Mary’s as Dale Armstrong and Josh Gavey scored just over three minutes apart late in the frame to give the Knights a 2-0 lead early on.

Nik Gervasi got Korah on the board in the second period but goals by Jacob Bumbaco and Chuck Webb sealed the win for the Knights.

On Tuesday, St. Mary’s took a 2-1 series lead thanks to a 3-2 at the McMeeken.

A goal by Webb in the third period broke a 2-2 tie, giving the Knights the victory.

Webb finished the day with a pair of goals while Josh Mannarino had the other St. Mary’s goal.

Colby Arbour assisted on all three Knights goals. Carter Magee-Merenger assisted on a pair of goals.

Tanner Matier and Mateo Perri scored for Korah in game three.

Arbour was named the playoff MVP.

Locally, the AAA NOSSA event begins on Monday morning with a pair of games at the GFL Memorial Gardens.

St. Mary’s faces Horizon in the tournament opener at 10 a.m. while CASS will face Confederation of Sudbury in the second game, scheduled for 11:30 a.m.

Korah is set to play in NOSSA’s AA tournament, which begins on Monday in Sudbury.

The Colts open the two-day event at 9 a.m. against one of the two Sudbury reps in the tournament at Countryside Arena.
