Knights, Colts open high school playoffs with wins

It took overtime for St. Mary's to beat CASS while Korah blanked Superior Heights in Sunday's second game

The city high school hockey playoffs opened on Sunday night at the GFL Memorial Gardens.

In Sunday’s early game, Josh Mannarino had the overtime winner as St. Mary’s beat CASS 4-3.

Mannarino also had a pair of assists for the Knights.

Nick Niro scored a pair of goals for St. Mary’s while Thomas Irwin had the Knights other goal.

Mack Ableson had a pair or power play goals for CASS.

Joel Lamoureaux chipped in with a goal and an assist for the Huskies.

The series will resume on Wednesday in a 3 p.m. start at the McMeeken Centre. Game three, if necessary, is scheduled for Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

In Sunday’s other game, Michael Neveau had two goals and an assist as Korah blanked Superior Heights  3-0.

Sean Zago picked up the shutout for Korah.

Connor Caruso had the other Korah goal.

The series resumes on Thursday afternoon in a 3 p.m. start at the John Rhodes Community Centre with game three, if needed, set for Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. at the McMeeken
