Knights advance while Colts and Huskies open series in high school hockey

St. Mary's will await the winner of the series between Korah and CASS to determine the city high school hockey champion

Playoff action in high school hockey continued on Wednesday with a pair of games.

The Korah Colts got a goal and an assist each from Connor Caruso, Michael Neveau and Noah Sehovic en route to a 4-2 series-opening win over the CASS Huskies at the McMeeken.

Neveau scored early in the second period and the goal eventually held up as the game-winner for the Colts.

Ty Zachary also scored for Korah.

Mateo Perri assisted on a pair of Korah goals.

Caden King had a goal and an assist for CASS.

Nick Purnis had the other goal for the Huskies.

Josh Gavey had two goals and two assists while Travis Johnson picked up the shutout as the St. Mary’s Knights blanked the Superior Heights Steelhawks 5-0 in Wednesday’s other game at the John Rhodes Community Centre, giving the Knights a sweep of their series and a berth in the city final.

Chuck Webb added a goal and an assist for St. Mary’s.

Colby Arbour and Caden Caputo also scored for the Knights.

A goal by Gavey in the fourth overtime period gave St. Mary’s a series-opening 3-2 win over Superior Heights on Monday.

Arbour and Carter Magee-Marenger also scored for the Knights.

Josh Mannarino had three assists while Kyle Finateri assisted on a pair of goals for St. Mary’s.

Gabe Spina had both goals for the Steelhawks, including the game-tying goal on the power play in the final seconds of the third period to force overtime.

The Knights will await the winner of the series between Korah and CASS, which continues on Thursday night at the John Rhodes at 8 p.m.

If necessary, game three between the Colts and Huskies is scheduled for Sunday night at 6:30 p.m. at the GFL Memorial Gardens.

The city final is scheduled to begin on Feb. 20 at the John Rhodes Community Centre.
