Knights advance in high school playoffs

The St. Mary’s Knights are off to the city high school hockey final.

In semifinal action on Wednesday, the Knights scored four unanswered goals en route to a 5-1 win over the CASS Huskies at the McMeeken Centre, capping off a sweep of their best-of-three series.

Josh Mannarino paced the Knights with a goal and two assists in the contest.

Chuck Webb and Nick Niro chipped in with a goal and an assist each.

Issac Parise and Ethan Novello also scored for the Knights.

Austin Mortimore had the lone goal for CASS in the game.

St. Mary’s won the series opener in overtime by a 4-3 score on Monday night.

The other semifinal series, featuring Korah and Superior Heights, is set to resume for game two on Thursday afternoon. Puck drop at the John Rhodes Community Centre is set for 3 p.m.

Korah won the series opener by a 3-0 margin on Sunday night.

A Superior Heights win on Thursday would force a third and deciding game three on Monday at the McMeeken Centre.
