Kennedy, Baziuk take top football honours

Kennedy, a member of the Sir James Dunn Eagles, was selected as the High School Football League's most valuable player and was presented with the Alex Denman Trophy, symbolic of the senior division's MVP.

Baziuk, a speedster with the St. Mary's Knights, was named the Nick Ferris Award winner as the junior division's most valuable player.

Already known as a star linebacker on defense, Kennedy took his offensive game to new heights this season as the Eagles starting quarterback for half the season and currently as the starting fullback.

Kennedy beat out Bawating's Matt Gauthier, White Pines' Matt Premo, St. Mary's Kayvon Fatemazadeh, St. Basil's Nick Vorlicek and Korah's Jon Day for the Denman.

As a grade 10 rookie running back and an OFSAA 100 metre sprint champion, Baziuk dominated the junior division with his incredible quickness. In a brief senior appearance this season, Baziuk took his second carry 48 yards for a touchdown.

Other junior MVP nominees were St. Basil's Kyle Hoffman, Bawating's Daniel Vaz, White Pine's Nick Minardi, Sir James Dunn's Jake Burmaster and Korah's Mike Burmaster.

Noah Rushon was named the senior division's Rocky DiPietro Award winner as the league's top receiver. St. Mary's Kevin Nanne was the Gordon Hargreaves award recipient as the top lineman and Bawating's Matt Gauthier was named the league's top defensive player.

St. Mary's Matt Hill won the league's only other junior division award as the most valuable lineman.
