Junior Greyhounds split with Flyers

The local Great North Midget League club remains in top spot in the standings

The Soo Jr. Greyhounds entered weekend action off to a great start in Great North Midget League action.

In a two-game set against the Kapuskasing Flyers locally, the Jr. Greyhounds came away with a split against a Flyers team that was off to a solid start to the season as well.

On Saturday night, the Flyers scored a pair of late goals to beat the Jr. Greyhounds 6-4.

Aubertin scored three times and assisted on another goal for the Flyers. Dawson Linklater chipped in with a goal and two assists.

Justin Alary and Ryan Maynard also scored for the Flyers.

Michael Chaffay had a pair of goals for the locals. Ty Zachary assisted on two goals while Stephen Pszeniczny and Gavin Ritacco also scored.

Sunday morning saw the Jr. Greyhounds rebound for a 4-1 victory to earn the weekend split.

Ethan Esposito had a goal and two assists for the Jr. Greyhounds while Devin Mauro assisted on a pair of goals.

Chaffay, Conner Toms and Dylan Forsyth also scored for the Jr. Greyhounds.

Aubertin had the lone goal for the Flyers in Sunday’s contest.

The Jr. Greyhonds sit atop the GNML standings with a 7-1-0-0 record while the split leaves the Flyers record at 5-2-0-0.

The Jr. Greyhounds return to action on Oct. 18 as the team begins play in the Ottawa Senators Showcase Tournament against the Navan Grads.

Regular season action resumes for the Jr. Greyhounds on Oct. 25 when the team hosts the North Bay Trappers in the first game of a three-game weekend series locally.
