Jakomait captures Canada Cup cycling opener

Jesse Jakomait turned a career best effort into a Canada Cup cross country cycling title last week in Bromont, Quebec. The Sault native won the men's elite race at the Canada Cup #1 race which consisted of a six lap, 6.

Jesse Jakomait turned a career best effort into a Canada Cup cross country cycling title last week in Bromont, Quebec.

The Sault native won the men's elite race at the Canada Cup #1 race which consisted of a six lap, 6.5 Km course through various terrain.

Jakomiat held in third place until the third lap where he caught the leaders. He took the the lead for good in the fourth lap and stormed through the final lap finishing over a minute ahead of the competition.

The win was career best for Jakomait as a provincial cup has continued to elude the racer. Jakomait recently relocated to Hardwood Hills, where he trains with coach Steve Neal.
