Jacobs splits on day two in North Bay

Sault Ste. Marie’s Brad Jacobs and his rink from the Community First Curling Club are well into the round robin of the Northern Ontario Men’s Provincial tournament at the North Bay Granite Club.

The Jacobs rink, which also features third Ryan Fry, second E.J. Harnden and lead Ryan Harnden, will head into day three of action on Friday with a 3-1 record after splitting a pair of games on Thursday.

Sporting a 2-0 record, Jacobs dropped his opener on Thursday 8-5 to Dylan Johnston of the Fort William Curling Club.

The Jacobs rink gave up a pair of steals, each for a pair, in the loss.

The team then bounced back with a 6-3 win over Robbie Gordon of the Sudbury Curling Club.

The Sault rink took a 4-0 lead through four ends after scoring three in the third and stealing one more in the fourth.

After Team Gordon scored a deuce in the fifth, Jacobs scored singles in the sixth and ninth ends to seal the win.

Jacobs opened the event on Wednesday with a pair of victories.

Jacobs opened the tournament with an 8-4 win over Tanner Horgan of Copper Cliff.

Jacobs scored deuces in the first, fifth and seventh ends while adding on a single in nine and a steal in ten to pick up the win.

The Sault Ste. Marie reps wrapped up opening day with a tight 7-6 win over Patrick Gelinas of Mattawa.

The Jacobs rink scored three in the second end to take a 3-1 lead and led 5-2 through four ends. Jacobs would blank the final end for the victory.

Team Jacobs returns to action on Friday with games against Jordan Chandler of Sudbury at 11 a.m. and Colin Koivula of Thunder Bay at 6:30 p.m. before wrapping up the round robin on Saturday morning at 9:30 against Mike Assad of the Geraldton Curling Club.
