They’re one of two teams who will enter the Championship Pool still unbeaten.

Thanks to a 10-5 win over Jon Solberg (Yukon) on Wednesday, Brad Jacobs (Northern Ontario) will take a perfect 7-0 record into the Championship Pool at the 2019 Tim Hortons Brier in Brandon, Man.

The Jacobs rink, which includes third Ryan Fry, second E.J. Harnden, lead Ryan Harnden, and fifth Lee Toner, was the lone unbeaten team in Pool A while Alberta’s Kevin Koe finished with a 7-0 record in Pool B.

Against Solberg, Jacobs opened with a pair in the first end with the hammer.

Solberg would proceed to score a pair of his own in the second end.

After the teams traded deuces in the fourth and fifth ends, Jacobs took a 6-4 lead with two in the sixth and increased the lead with a steal of one in the seventh.

After Solberg got one back in the eighth end, Jacobs sealed the win with three in the nine to make the final 10-5.

Jacobs said a little bit of adversity on Wednesday is a good thing as the team moves forward.

“Every win’s a big win and we’re fortunate to be 7-0 going into the Championship Pool,” Jacobs told Curling.ca. “We’re feeling good and now we can get some rest and come out refreshed tomorrow. It wasn’t our best effort today, but we were able to get it done. It was ugly at times, but nothing wrong with facing a little bit of adversity mid-week. I think it’ll be good for us.”

Team Jacobs Coach Adam Kingsbury said in an interview with Curling.ca that the team has maintained its commitment early on as the event reaches the midway point.

“They’re doing everything they’ve committed to,” Kingsbury said. “Mission number one has been accomplished but it’s going to get incredibly more difficult. Fatigue is going to creep in and we have to monitor that stuff now more than ever.”

The top four teams in each of the two pools advanced to the Championship Pool and carry their records over.

The teams play cross-over games in the pool. Jacobs is set to face British Columbia’s Jim Cotter on Thursday at 3 p.m. (eastern time).

On Friday, Jacobs will return to action to face Brad Gushue (Team Canada) at 3 p.m. and Koe in the 8 p.m. draw.

The top four teams after Championship Pool play on Friday night will advance to the Page Playoff on Saturday with the third and fourth place teams meeting at 3 p.m. (eastern time), followed by the first and second place teams at 8 p.m.

The winner of the 3vs4 game will face the loser of the 1vs2 game in semifinal action on Sunday afternoon.

The semifinal winner will meet the 1vs2 winner in the final on Sunday night.
