Jacobs remains perfect at provincials

With a berth in the Tim Hortons Brier on the line, Team Jacobs is off to a strong start at the northern Ontario playdowns

Sault Ste. Marie’s Brad Jacobs is in good shape heading into day three at the Northern Ontario Curling Association men’s provincial curling championship in Nipigon, Ont.

The Jacobs rink, which includes third Ryan Fry, second E.J. Harnden and lead Ryan Harnden, improved to 4-0 on Thursday thanks to a pair of victories.

In Thursday’s afternoon draw, Jacobs picked up a 9-3 win in eight ends over Dustin Montpellier of the Copper Cliff Curling Club in Sudbury.

Jacobs opened a 2-0 lead in the opening end and led 4-2 through five ends before taking a 7-2 lead thanks to three in the sixth end. Jacobs capped off the win with two more in the eighth end after Montpellier scored one in the seventh.

In the evening draw, Jacobs picked up a 7-1 win in five ends over Jordan Chandler of Curl Sudbury.

With the hammer in the opening end, Jacobs took a 2-0 lead and proceeded to steal in in the second and third ends before stealing three more in the fourth end en route to the win.

Jacobs returns to action with a pair of games on Friday.

In the morning draw, the Jacobs rink will face Dylan Johnston of the Fort William Curling Club in Thunder Bay before meeting Tanner Horgan of Curl Sudbury in the evening draw.

Round robin action continues until Saturday with the top three teams earning playoff berths.

The top team earns a spot directly into Sunday’s final with the other two teams meeting in semifinal action on Sunday morning.

The tournament winner will represent northern Ontario at the 2019 Tim Hortons Brier in Brandon, Man.
