Ivey paces Colts to victory

After an opening half that saw their opponent keep the game close, the Korah Colts used a quick start in the second half to pick up another victory in senior girl’s high school basketball action.

With a one-point lead at halftime, the Colts would open things up to the beat the White Pines Wolverines 42-27 at White Pines on Wednesday evening.

“Tori Ivey was the difference,” Colts Coach Gary Cormier said of the difference in the second half. “Tori played like a warrior today. You couldn’t ask anything more of that young lady than she already did.

Ivey had a quadruple-double with 16 points, 18 rebounds, 10 steals and 10 assists for the Colts.

Cormier also credited the play of Hannah Yule, who had 12 rebounds for Korah in the win. Averi Bodnar added nine points for Korah.

The Colts held a slim 14-13 lead at the half before breaking the game open in the third quarter and Cormier credited the Wolverines for making life difficult in the first two quarters.

“White Pines played us really tough,” Cormier said. “They played a really tough first half. They grinded it out. They made us work for everything we got.

Riley Dunbar had eight points while Darby Sewell chipped in with six points for White Pines.

In Wednesday’s other senior game Rachel rising had 13 points as the St. Mary’s Knights beat the Superior Heights Steelhawks 31-24. Serena Pulente added eight points for the Knights.

Annie Damignani had 10 points for Superior Heights. Carly Richards added six points.

Wednesday’s lone junior game saw St. Mary’s beat Superior Heights 42-29. Jacey Duguay and Alyssa Rizzo had 10 points each for St. Mary’s while Sophie Grawbarger had 10 points for Superior Heights. Alea Nye added nine points for the Steelhawks.

The regular season continues on Nov. 1 with a junior game between Korah and White Pines at White Pines in a 5:15 p.m. start. The game was originally scheduled for Wednesday night. The regular season wraps up on Nov. 2 at St. Mary’s hosts Korah and Superior Heights plays host to White Pines. Junior games are at 5:15 p.m. with senior games to follow at 7 p.m.
