The Soo Greyhounds 2003 training camp continued on Friday night as the team took part in the annual Red/White intersquad game at Memorial Gardens.

In what was expected to be the last on-ice workout before the first set of cuts were made, players looked to make one last impression before Greyhound management made a decision to cut down the roster.

After a number of high scoring scrimmages to open the camp, the Red/White game featured a low scoring affair, where one mistake could have ultimately been the difference between a win and a loss for either club.

In a scoreless opening period, Team White held the edge in shots by a 14-12 margin, although the goaltenders, Kevin Lachance of Team Red and Kevin Druce of Team White did not have to make many outstanding saves as many of the shots were routine saves.

Veteran forward Scott Dobben of Team White opened the scoring at 13:03 of the second period, beating Team Red netminder Kevin King, who entered the game minutes earlier, with a rising shot which beat the young goaltender to the top corner on his glove side.

Matt Puntureri, who also had an assist in the game, tied the game at 1-1 beating Team White's Jakub Cech, who entered the game at the start of the 2nd Period, relieving starter Kevin Druce.

Team Red wasted little time taking the lead in the third period as overage candidate Jeff Doyle bet Team White netminder Kyle Gajewski just under a minute into the period to give the Red Team a lead that they would never relinquish as the goal would stand up as the game winner in a 2-1 Team Red victory.

Goaltenders in the contest on both sides were busy as Team Red outshot Team White 44-30 in the game.

The Red/White game marked the team's last scrimmage before they start exhibition play, which kicks off on Labour Day Monday against the Saginaw Spirit. Game time is 2 p.m.

Following the game, the Greyhounds made their first set of cuts releasing Alex Evans, Mark Duchesne, Andy Lamoureux, Tyler Lannigan, Chris Ziomek, Kyle Schwende, Colton Steinhoff, Nathan Clayton, Mike Moher and Marcus Salo.
