After building a 3-1 first period lead, the Soo Greyhounds surrendered four unanswered goals to open a road trip with a loss.

Sault native Craig Kennedy scored a goal and added an assist as the Windsor Spitfires defeated the Greyhounds 5-3 in Ontario Hockey League action in Windsor on Thursday night.

Kennedy opened the game's scoring 4:41 into the first period to give the Spits a 1-0 lead.

The Greyhounds then responded with a three goal outburst on scoring plays completed by local product Jacob King, with his fourth of the year, first round draft pick Chris Lawrence, with his fourth, and newcomer Justin Anderson, with his first. King and Lawrence each added an assist.

Anderson, an affiliate player with the junior B Chatham Maroons, was called-up by the Greyhounds for the road trip.

Following the third Greyhounds goal, Spitfires coach Steve Smith yanked starter Matt Anthony from the net in favour of Kyle Knechtel, who stopped the remaining 18 Greyhound shots on goal, which created a spark for the home side.

John Scott Dickson on the power play, Rob Hennigar, Iain McPhee with the game winner and Darryl Lloyd completed the scoring for Windsor in the comeback effort.

Hennigar, who added two assists, was named the game's first star while Kennedy, who added an assist, was named second star and Kevin Druce was third star after stopping 36 of 41 shots in net for the Greyhounds.

The West Division rivalry sparked a pair of fights as Spitfires tough guy Can Janssen squared off with Hounds defenseman Brad Staubitz in the first period and enforcer Colt King late in the second frame.

With the loss, the division leading Greyhounds fall to 16-13-1-1. The team has now lost two straight games, including a humbling 6-1 loss to Toronto St. Michael's at home on Sunday, and is 4-6 in their last 10 games.

The Greyhounds play their second game of the three-game road trip on Friday night in Sarnia at 7:30 p.m. The Hounds will conclude their West Division swing on Saturday against the Saginaw Spirit at 7:30 p.m.

The team will return home to begin a three-game homestand on Wednesday against the Sudbury Wolves at 7:30 p.m. at Memorial Gardens.

In other OHL action on Thursday, Rob Schremp scored a goal and added an assist as the London Knights defeated the Peterborough Petes 5-2.
