HOUNDS GET SPIT POUNDED OUT OF THEM

WINDSOR -- The first game of the post John Vanbiesbrouck era was a complete disaster for the Soo Greyhounds, who suffered an embarrassing 8-2 loss to the Windsor Spitfires before more than 3,700 fans at the old barn here Thursday night.

The Spitfires scored four goals in the first period and chased starting Greyhound goalie Adam Munro from the net of 11:22 of the second period. Munro allowed seven goals before being replaced by backup goalie Joey Biasucci, who stopped 13 of 14 shots in a credible relief performance.

It was a rather listless effort by the Soo team, who played with very little passion and desire after having defeated Windsor at home on Sunday in Vanbiesbrouck's last game as coach of the Greyhounds. The Hounds clinched eighth place in the OHL's Western Conference with that win on Sunday.

The Greyhounds looked indifferent and uninspired here Thursday and seemed to lack leadership and direction on the ice.

Jeff Larsh and Sean Stefanski scored the only goals for the Greyhounds and Trevor Daley had an assist in his return to the Soo's lineup. It was the first game as head coach for Steve Harrison of the Hounds, who will replace Vanbiesbrouck behind the Soo's bench for the remainder of this season.

Craig Kennedy, a native of the Soo, had a goal and an assist for the Spitfires. The 19-year old Kennedy has a career high of 36 goals this season.
