Hounds announce revamped scouting staff

The Soo Greyhounds announced several additions to their scouting staff on Wednesday, which will be headed by general manager Dave Torrie. Torrie will be aided by new scouting coordinator Mike MacFarlane, who will cover the entire province of Ontario.

The Soo Greyhounds announced several additions to their scouting staff on Wednesday, which will be headed by general manager Dave Torrie.

Torrie will be aided by new scouting coordinator Mike MacFarlane, who will cover the entire province of Ontario. An elementary school teacher by day, MacFarlane has 20 years of Ontario Hockey League experience as a scout with the Sudbury Wolves, Guelph Storm and Mississauga Ice Dogs.

Other new additions to the staff include Terry Penner, who will cover the Metro Toronto area, Doug Chipman, who will scout the Golden Horseshoe area of Hamilton and Niagara Falls along with Peter Sljivic, who will scout western Ontario and the United States. Jason Bakula will serve as the team's new OHL advance scout.

Other members of the Greyhounds scouting staff include Kelly Katorji, who scouts the Kitchener/Waterloo and London areas, Don Cotton, who covers eastern Ontario, and Joe Muli, who scouts the Thunder Bay, Kenora and Fort Frances area.

*** After a day of registrations and fitness testing on Wednesday, the Soo Greyhounds hit the ice to begin their main training camp today. Scrimmages will be held at 9:45 a.m. and 5 p.m. at Memorial Gardens.

On Friday, the Hounds will scrimmage at 10 a.m. and play the annual Red/White game at 7 p.m.

The team will open the exhibition season on Monday with a 2 p.m. contest against the Saginaw Spirit at the Gardens.
