High school sports digest: Gervasi paces Colts to hockey win

High school hockey action continued on Wednesday as Korah skated to a 7-4 win over Central Algoma Secondary School (CASS) at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

Nik Gervasi scored three times and assisted on another goal to pace the Colts offensively.

Noah Naccarato chipped in with a pair of goals. Tyler Albert and Zak Provenzano also scored for the Colts.

The Colts improve to 3-4-0-0 (wins-losses-ties-overtime losses).

Jack McLeod and Matt Quenneville had a goal and an assist each for CASS, who falls to 0-7-0-1 with the loss.

Kayne Mortimore and Spencer Lawrence also scored for the Huskies.

St. Mary’s sits atop the standings with an 8-0-1-0 record while Superior Heights is second (4-0-1-3).

In boy’s basketball action on Tuesday night, Korah’s Matt Kment had 20 points as Korah beat Superior Heights 56-44 in senior action. Brennan Mitchell chipped in 10 points for the Colts.

Jackson Hart of Superior Heights led all scorers in the game with 26 points.

Tuesday’s other senior game saw Gianni Viotto score 21 points to lead St. Mary’s to a 73-60 win over White Pines. Aaron Bossio added 15 points for the Knights.

Bishop Whitmell had 16 points for White Pines.

In junior action Tuesday night, Michael Nicoletta had 22 points to lead all scorers and help Korah to a narrow 61-57 win over Superior Heights. Jackson Naccarato had 14 points for the Colts.

Kyle Dudezki had 18 points for Superior Heights.

Results from Tuesday’s junior game between St. Mary’s and White Pines were not available.
