High school basketball finalists set

Korah will face Superior Heights in both the junior and senior city title games

The matchups are set for the city championship in girl’s high school basketball.

In senior action on Thursday night, the Korah Colts advanced to the city final thanks to a 63-22 win over White Pines.

Taylor Elliott paced Korah with 18 points while Sam Hyde chipped in with 12 points. Cecilia Holzwarth paced White Pines with 10 points while Raina Brock had nine points for the Wolverines.

The other senior semifinal saw Alicia Wellings score 16 points to lead the Superior Heights Steelhawks to a narrow 31-28 victory over the St. Mary’s Knights.

Annie Damignani added eight points for Superior Heights.

Mispon Martin paced St. Mary’s with eight points.

In junior semifinal action, Esther Yule had 15 points as Korah advanced by way of a 34-27 win over St. Mary’s. Gracie Sloss added 13 points for the Colts.

Leah Thomson had 10 points for St. Mary’s.

The other junior semifinal saw Superior Heights move on with a 61-12 win over White Pines. Brayden Corbett Lewis of Superior Heights led all scorers in the game with 12 points.

Alea Nye added 10 points for the Steelhawks while Mackenzie Hutchings had five points for White Pines.

The championship games are scheduled for Saturday night at St. Mary’s. The junior final is set for 5:15 p.m. with the senior final to follow at 7 p.m.
