It was a golden day for Soo Greyhounds forward Barrett Hayton and coach Drew Bannister Saturday at the 2017 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup in Breclav, Czech Republic.

Hayton and Bannister were members of the Canadian team at the annual Under-18 tournament that beat the host Czech Republic 4-1 in the championship game.

Team Canada opened the scoring as Jared McIsaac got the Canadians on the board with just under four minutes to go in the opening period, a frame that saw Canada outshoot the Czech Republic 19-4.

Joe Veleno and Kevin Bahl scored second period goals for the Canadians while Jack McBain sealed the win with a goal midway through the final period.

Dominik Arnost had the lone goal for the Czech Republic.

In the bronze medal game, trailing by a pair of goals in the third period, Team Sweden scored three unanswered goals to beat Team Russia 4-3. Jacob Olofsson scored the overtime winner.
