Though the Ontario Hockey League draft lottery on Wednesday night didn’t go quite the way they had hoped in securing a high pick, the Soo Greyhounds received some good lottery news on Thursday.

The league held a second draft lottery to determine the order of the OHL’s annual Under-18 draft and the Greyhounds will hold the third overall pick when the draft is held on June 9.

The lottery held to determine the order was overseen by Robert Bayne, a partner with the law firm Filion Wakely Thorup Angeletti LLP.

Bayne also oversaw and certified the lottery for the OHL Priority Selection.

The U18 draft, which will be two rounds in length and a third added should teams select a goaltender with one of their initial picks, will run in similar fashion to the main draft.

The second round will be in inverse order of round one, meaning the Greyhounds will hold the third last pick in round two.

The full order for round one is:

  1. London Knights
  2. Saginaw Spirit
  3. Soo Greyhounds
  4. Guelph Storm
  5. Flint Firebirds
  6. Sudbury Wolves
  7. Hamilton Bulldogs
  8. Barrie Colts
  9. Sarnia Sting
  10. North Bay Battalion
  11. Owen Sound Attack
  12. Kitchener Rangers
  13. Peterborough Petes
  14. Kingston Frontenacs
  15. Ottawa 67’s
  16. Erie Otters
  17. Windsor Spitfires
  18. Oshawa Generals
  19. Mississauga Steelheads
  20. Niagara IceDogs

On Thursday afternoon, the league also announced the order its teams will select in the annual Canadian Hockey League Import Draft, which is scheduled for June 30.

The league plans to invert the order of Wednesday’s initial draft lottery, meaning the Greyhounds will be the second OHL team to pick and hold the sixth overall pick in the draft.
