OSHAWA, ON – A strong goaltending performance and quality efforts from a number of different players was the difference for the Soo Greyhounds on Sunday afternoon.

Joseph Raaymakers made 29 saves and 10 players registered at least one point as the Greyhounds wrapped up a three-game road trip with a 5-1 win over the Oshawa Generals at the General Motors Centre.

“In the first period (Oshawa) came hard and we were able to weather the storm,” said Greyhounds Coach Drew Bannister. “Obviously we got some really good goaltending and they did too. When we started to push in the second period early on their goalie was really good.”

Bannister also credited the play of Raaymakers.

“Ray was really good towards the end of the second period for us,” Bannister said. “He was phenomenal. As good as their goalie was, he was that much better.”

Jack Kopacka scored twice for the Greyhounds while Morgan Frost assisted on a pair of goals.

“He was unbelievable,” Bannister said of Frost. “He might have been our best forward.”

“The young guys created a lot of opportunities,” Bannister added.

Colton White, Conor Timmins and Tim Gettinger also scored for the Greyhounds.

Late in the contest, the Greyhounds lost the services of veteran defenceman Gustav Bouramman after the Swedish blueliner received a match penalty for slew-footing with just over five minutes to go.

Match penalties carry an automatic two-game suspension and are reviewed by the OHL office.

Earlier in the period, forward Blake Speers was clipped with a high stick by Oshawa’s Daniel Robertson.

Robertson received a double-minor on the play while Speers was cut and needed stitches.

Generals goaltender Jeremy Brodeur stopped 21 shots while Lukas Lofquist had the lone Oshawa goal.

The Greyhounds now move a point ahead of the Owen Sound Attack for sixth in the Western Conference standings and eight points ahead of the Saginaw Spirit.

The Greyhounds record improves to 24-20-5-1 while Oshawa’s record falls to 18-27-3-4.

The Greyhounds return to action on Wednesday night at home against the Sarnia Sting. Puck drop at the Essar Centre is set for 7:07 p.m.
