The Soo Greyhounds coaching staff has another new face.
In the wake of the hiring of John Dean as head coach and Sault native Jordan Smith as associate coach, the team announced on Thursday that Jamie Tardif has been hired as an assistant coach.
Tardif, 33, joins the staff on the heels of a 12-year pro career that ended last season with the ECHL’s Quad City Mallards.
With the Mallards, Tardif also served as an assistant coach.
In a prepared statement, Tardif called the opportunity to join the Greyhounds an honour.
“I am extremely honoured and fortunate to have the opportunity to join a great organization,” Tardif said.
Tardif played five years in the Ontario Hockey League from 2001 to 2006, all with the Peterborough Petes.
In his final year, Tardif was the captain of the Petes team that swept the London Knights in the OHL final.
“Jamie’s experience through his junior and pro career, along with his passion and approach to the game will be a great resource for both our players and staff,” Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Raftis said in a prepared statement. “His ability to work on the fine details will only further our commitment to player development.”
