The Soo Greyhounds announced on Thursday afternoon that they have signed defenceman Kyle Jenkins to a standard player agreement.
Jenkins, a 6-foot, 160-pound Brampton, Ont. native, is currently playing for the Oakville Blades of the Ontario Junior Hockey League where he had six goals and 20 points in 30 games. He participated in the Central Canada Cup with Team OJHL South and also attended the selection camp for Team East for the World Jr. A Hockey Challenge earlier this season.
Jenkins was selected in the fourth round of the 2012 OHL Priority Selection from the Mississauga Rebels. While with the Rebels, Jenkins helped the team to an OHL Cup title.
“The signing of Kyle going head to head with some NCAA programs who had also made overtures to Kyle, is another positive indication for where our program is and where it s heading,” Greyhounds General Manager Kyle Dubas said in a release. “Kyle is an excellent skater with tremendous hockey sense and instincts in all three zones. His combination of skating, puck skills, and intelligence allow him to drive possession in all 3 zones, fitting into the style of play implemented by Coach Keefe.”
Jenkins is expected to remain with the Blades for the remainder of the season but he would be available as a callup if need be.
Jenkins is one of eight players selected in the 2012 draft to be signed by the Greyhounds, including current Greyhounds Jared McCann, Kevin Spinozzi, Trent Mallette and David Miller along with Nicholas Pastorious, Brandon Halverson and Brandon Hughes.
