Greyhounds continue to add through draft (4:24 p.m. update)

The 2015 Ontario Hockey League Priority Selection is underway. The draft began shortly after 9 a.m. with the Sudbury Wolves selecting Israeli-born forward David Levin with the first pick.

The draft began shortly after 9 a.m. with the Sudbury Wolves selecting Israeli-born forward David Levin with the first pick.

Meantime, the Soo Greyhounds held the final pick of the first round and selected centre Liam Hawel of the Ottawa Valley Tiotans.

Hawel scored 18 goals and 49 points in 25 games during the 2014-15 season. The 15-year-old was described by OHL Central Scouting as a player "with all kinds of upside and potential. He has good size (6-foot-2) and a very good skill set."

In the third round, the Greyhounds selected defenceman Anthony Demeo of Port Washington, NY.

The 6-foot, 188-pound defenceman had one goal and 15 points in 24 games in the 2014-15 season with the New Jersey Rockets.

In round four, the Greyhounds selected Barrie Jr. Colts centre Morgan Frost. The 15-year-old scored 30 goals and 55 points in 32 games this season.

With the final pick of the fifth round, the Greyhounds chose American defenceman Corson Green.

A native of Potsdam, NY, Green played the 2014-15 season with CIH Academy where he scored six goals and 24 points in 25 games.

With their sixth round pick, the Greyhounds selected Peterborough native Calvin Martin, a 5-foot-10, 165-pound centre with the Peterborough Petes.

Martin scored eight goals and 24 points in 22 games in 2014-15.

In the seventh round, the Greyhounds have selected Taylor Carlson, a defenceman from the Ottawa Valley Titans.

The 5-foot-10, 186-pound blueliner had five goals and 21 points in 30 games with the Titans this season.

In round eight, the Greyhounds selected another Ottawa Valley Titan in Ryan Horvath.

A centre, Horvath scored 20 goals and 50 points in 28 games this season.

With their selection in round 10, the Greyhounds chose Southern Tier Admirals centre Lucas Thorne.

Thorne scored 12 goals 31 points in 26 games with the Admirals.

London Knights minor midget defenceman Isaiah Payne was selected by the Greyhounds in round 10.Payne scored seven goals and 18 points in 33 games with the Knights this season

In round 12, the Greyhounds selected goaltender Dougie Newhouse. The 15-year-old netminder played the 2014-15 season with the Thunder Bay minor midget Kings.

The Greyhounds selected Miami, Fla. native Randy Hernandez. Hernandez played for the Florida Alliance U16 team in 2014-15.

In round 14, the team selected 6-foot-3, 195-pound defenceman Theo Calvas, who played for the Detroit Little Caesars major midget team in 2014-15.

The draft is complete as the Greyhounds make three selections in round 15. The team went local with defenceman Zach Taylor of the Soo Greyhounds minor midgets while also selecting centre Alex Daigle of the Toronto Titans minor midgets and ending the day by selecting Perry Winfree of the Carolina Jr. Hurricanes minor midget team.

Soo Thunderbirds midgets defenceman Nolan Makkonen had been selected as the 16-year-old has been drafted by the Guelph Storm. In 36 Great North Midget League games, Makkonen picked up five assists, Another local product, Gage Stephney, was selected by the Oshawa Generals. Stephney played the 2014-15 season with the Soo Greyhounds minor midgets. Stephney's teammate with the minor midget team, Max Khull, was selected by the Nagara IceDogs.
