A three-game road trip opens on Thursday night for the Soo Greyhounds as the travel to the PowerAde Centre in Brampton to take on the Battalion.

Both teams are in a battle for positioning in their respective conferences. The Greyhounds are in a fight with the Plymouth Whalers and Sarnia Sting in the Western Conference while the Battalion are battling with Sudbury in the East.

For the Greyhounds, Thursday marks an opportunity to jump into top spot in the West Division with a win. With the Whalers enjoying an off-day, the Greyhounds would jump one point ahead of the Whalers with a win. The Sting, who are one point behind the Greyhounds in the standings, are in London on Thursday.

The Battalion enter Thursday night trailing Sudbury by a single point for fourth in the Eastern Conference and the game with the Greyhounds represents their game in hand on the Wolves.

Both teams enter action on similar hot streaks.

The Greyhounds have gone six straight without a regulation loss. The team has five wins and a shootout loss in that streak. The team has also won eight of 10.

On the other side, Brampton has five wins and a pair of shootout losses in their last seven games. The Battalion are 5-2-0-3 in their last 10 heading into action on Thursday night.

Thursday marks the second of two meetings between the two clubs. Brampton travelled north to face the Greyhounds on Nov. 16, coming away from the Essar Centre with a 4-3 win thanks to Barclay Goodrow’s game-winning goal.

For the Greyhounds, forward Brandon Alderson will be looking to extend his 10-game point streak. Alderson has five goals and 16 points in that span. Reigning OHL Player of the Week Ryan Sproul enters Thursday with a seven-game point streak as well. Sproul has four goals and 14 points during the streak.

Other games on the schedule Thursday include:

  • London vs. Sarnia (7:00 p.m.)
  • Peterborough vs. Windsor (7:05 p.m.)
