It’s the second, and final, time they will face each other in the Ontario Hockley League regular season but there’s still plenty on the line for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Kingston Frontenacs when they hit the ice tonight at the Essar Centre.

The Greyhounds are in the middle of a battle with the Plymouth Whalers and Sarnia Sting for top spot in the OHL’s West Division and, subsequently the second seed in the Western Conference behind the London Knights. The Whalers currently hold a four-point lead over the Sting and five-point lead over the Greyhounds.

The Whalers and Sting are also in action on Saturday night, both on home ice. The Whalers host the Guelph Storm while the Sting host the Oshawa Generals.

As for the Frontenacs, they’re currently fighting for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. The Frontenacs hold a two-point lead over the Peterborough Petes and are looking to take advantage of one of their two games in hand on the Petes. The Petes are off until Monday afternoon when they host the Owen Sound Attack.

The Frontenacs also have a chance to catch the Mississauga Steelheads for seventh as they trail the GTA-based team by four points while both clubs have played 54 games. The Steelheads are in Barrie on Saturday night.

The first meeting between the two clubs, in Kingston on Jan. 6, saw Kingston goaltender Mike Morrison stop 43 shots in a 4-3 shootout win over the Greyhounds. The Frontenacs overcame a pair of penalties in overtime to pick up the win. Henri Ikonen had the shootout winner. For the Greyhounds, rookie forward Tyler Gaudet picked up his first Ontario Hockey League goal in the loss.

Also on the OHL schedule on Saturday night are:

  • Erie vs. Kitchener (7 p.m.)
  • Belleville vs. Sudbury (7:05 p.m.)
  • Plymouth vs. Guelph (7:05 p.m.)
  • Sarnia vs. Oshawa (7:05 p.m.)
  • Saginaw vs. Windsor (7:11 p.m.)
  • Barrie vs. Mississauga (7:30 p.m.)
