The football season is slowly coming to a close for the summer locally.

The regular season is winding down for one local team while the weekend will mark the end of the minor football season.

The Northern Football Conference season will continue on Saturday for the Sault Steelers on the road.

The Steelers take a 1-5 record into Sudbury to take on the 2-4 Spartans on Sunday evening.

It marks the final road game of the regular season for the Steelers, who enter the game on the heels of a late-minute loss at home to the Steel City Patriots last weekend.

The Sault Minor Football League season will come to a close on three fronts on Sunday.

Championship games are scheduled in all three divisions beginning with the Atom Division final at 3:30 p.m. The Peewee final will follow at 5:30 p.m. before the day wraps up with the Bantam Division final at 7:30 p.m.

In the Atom Division the top-seeded Little Caesar’s Hawks blanked the Manulife Warriors 57-0 to earn one berth in the championship game where they will face the All State Blues.

Hawks quarterback Matt Tucker ran for a pair of touchdowns and threw for another in the win.

The Blues upset the Sports Gold Mustangs 28-23 in the other semifinal. Jarrett Dewer led the Blues offensive attack with 175 yard rushing on 12 carries and a pair of touchdowns.

In the Peewee Division, the Northern Dental Chargers advanced to the final thanks to an 18-2 victory over the Realty Executive Giants while the Sault Promo Cardinals will be the opposition after an 18-13 win in the other semifinal.

The championship will be a meeting of the divisions top two teams. The Cardinals finished the regular season 6-0 while the finished 4-2.

In the Bantam Division, the Tim Horton’s Lions and Yard Smart Ticats will meet in the final.

The Lions overcame an early touchdown to beat the SalDan Redblacks 23-6 while the Ticast beat the Community First Argos 36-30 in semifinal action last weekend.

All three championship games are slated for Rocky DiPietro Field.
